Hassan Mohammed from Sudan who follows the MSc Earth & Environment joined the EGU 2026 conference in Vienna from May 3 – 9.
During the conference, he presented his MSc research on future plausible drought impacts under climate change in the Guadalquivir River Basin, Spain.
His work focused on improving the exploration of plausible drought futures using a problem-specific climate uncertainty framework. During the poster presentation of his work, he received valuable feedback from researchers working in hydrology, climate modelling, and drought risk assessment, which will help strengthen the scientific article he intends to submit later this year.
He also attended several scientific sessions related to land-atmosphere interactions, drought propagation, and climate extremes, where he earned more details of new methods, modelling approaches, and recent scientific developments that will directly support his future academic work.
This excellent opportunity to connect with leading scientists in the field of droughts and climate extremes, gave him the chance to discuss some of his research ideas on drought propagation and land-atmosphere feedback with Diego Miralles, who shared valuable insights and suggestions that helped him to sharpen Hassan’s ideas. In addition, he met Sudanese scholars, among them specialists with whom Hassan will, after graduation, start potential future collaboration on climate change impacts on groundwater resources in Sudan, which soon will start formulating.
Overall, he experienced his participation in EGU26 as very important and extremely inspiring, that already contributed to his scientific and professional development.
